Bluelight Garden
These pieces began with an 18th-century embroidery book found in a museum archive — designs that looked, despite their age, startlingly contemporary. Pixelated, domestic, patient. The same grids that once lived in women’s hands, translated here into silver through accumulated spheres of metal.
The glimmering surface disperses light the way a screen does. Tradition and technology arriving at the same image from opposite ends of time.

2021 — Sterling Silver
A meditation on value and its copies. In an era of late capitalism, the diamond has been replicated so many times that its meaning has drifted free of its material reality — what remains is an abstraction, a symbol sustained more by collective belief than by anything tangible.
These rings recreate various cuts of the diamond in silver. Each form is hollow inside, feigning solidity — a utopian gesture to those still faithful to the original.

2020–2022 — Gold-plated Silver
The foil balloon: weightless, celebratory, effortless in appearance. Here, that same lightness is achieved in gold-plated metal — a material that could not be more different from what it imitates.
Each letter is made to be worn. What reads at first as something playful and disposable is, on closer inspection, something else entirely.

Hand-formed. Each letter unique.
Things are not what they appear to be.
A hollow diamond, solid in silver. A foil balloon, hammered from sheet metal. A pixelated screen pattern, stitched in silver by hand three centuries ago.
JeheeKwon makes jewelry from the gap between what something looks like and what it is. Each piece is an exercise in misdirection — surfaces that invite a second look, materials that resist their own appearance, objects that reveal their making only to those who come closer.
Value is a story we tell ourselves. So is lightness. So is permanence. The work asks which stories we choose to believe, and what happens when the material refuses to cooperate.
